Class Descriptions

Dharma Yoga

This dynamic class follows the tradition developed by Sri Dharma Mittra. It comprises of a system of classical Hatha-Raja Yoga; a devotional practice that emphasises good health, a clear mind and a kind heart. Students are encouraged to do each posture at their own level as they go through the different parts of the sequence. Asana, pranayama, chanting, deep relaxation, meditation and philosophy are included in these classes with the purpose of strengthening and purifying the entire system.

Dharma Open (All Levels Practice) | Moving on…..Right on!

Sun Salutations and our Shiva Namaskara Vinyasa as the warm up, followed a variety of important postures for good health that are adjusted accordingly for each student. This practice will energize and strengthen the entire physical body and help inspire concentration internally. Includes 10 minutes of guided deep relaxation (Yoga Nidra) to recharge and rejuvenate the physical and emotional body.

Dharma I (Beginner) | Wow……this is amazing

This is the beginning level of the Dharma Yoga series. Students practice Surya Namaskar Vinyasa and Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa Level I to warm up the body, bring flexibility to all muscles and joints and wake up the nervous system. A gentle, yet powerful series of balancing, stretching, back bending, twisting and mild inverted postures follow. This practice ends with Deep Relaxation, breathing exercises and concentration/meditation to remove impurities and bring a sense of well-being to the body and radiant peace to the mind.

Dharma Gentle | A G-R-E-A-T place to start!

A simple yet powerful, series of balancing, stretching, back bending, twisting and mild inverted postures to get you going, concluding with a guided relaxation.

Vinyasa | Everyone is welcome

A dynamic practice focused on moving the body along with the breath. The experience in this class is one of fluidity and motion. Poses are generally held for short periods of time and emphasis on the rhythm of the breath is encouraged with the purpose of aligning and focusing the mind. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.
Suitable for students with some yoga experience, new practitioners seeking a more dynamic practice and students who want to increase their knowledge of the fundamental Vinyasa sequences and breath alignment.

Hatha | A G-R-E-A-T place to start

A non-vinyasa based asana practice focused on connecting the body and mind with the purpose of increasing awareness and stability. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.
Suitable for new practitioners and students who want to increase their knowledge of the fundamental poses and alignment in yoga, postures are adjusted accordingly for each student. No full inversion are included in these classes. Some preparations for inversions may be introduced.

Hatha Restorative

A deeply relaxing healing practice focused on stimulating the parasympathetic system with the purpose of calming the body and the mind. In this class, props such as belts, bolsters, blocks, chairs and blankets are used with the purpose of supporting the body while exerting minimal physical effort in the asanas. Includes 20 minuets of deep restorative relaxation (Yoga Nidra) Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.
Suitable for anyone seeking to alleviate the strains of a busy and stressful lifestyle.

Yoga Nidra

Also known as yogic sleep, Yoga Nidra is a state of conscious deep sleep that brings about relaxation, clarity and tranquillity. During this class, students are guided through specific instructions to focus on different body parts and to relax them, while in a state of conscious sleep. The method is simple yet profound and it revitalises the entire system. Some preparatory asanas may be included.
Suitable for students seeking to relax and reset the body and mind.

Meditation

The class will start with some breathing exercises to purify and calm the mind. Then a meditation will be offered. These can range from visualization, sound repetition, object focus through to meditation on the Self. The goal being to quieten the mind and to attain some inner peace. This class will be held sitting, there are no active poses. You will leave feeling peaceful and recharged.

Yin

A healing practice focused on realigning and stretching the connective tissues of the body. Students will experience long held deep stretches with the purpose of connecting with the rhythm of the breath and cultivating a meditative mind. Some pranayama and meditation may be included.
Suitable for anyone looking to stretch their bodies with little physical effort.

Community Yoga

We believe at Pilates & Yoga Styles that everyone can benefit from a regular yoga practice. We want to offer these classes to the community that are not only high quality but affordable. The community classes on Tuesday and Thursday are based on Hatha Yoga 1 and are lead by fully qualified teachers. The Free community class is based on Dharma 1 and is taught by newly qualified teachers. All teachers of the community classes are graduates from Pilates&Yoga Styles Sadhana Yoga Teacher training programmes.

Pilates Level I
